International Fund for Animal Welfare
IFAW Emergency Response Team in Australia
IFAW is mounting an emergency animal rescue and relief project in Queensland, Australia to help the animal victims of the devastating floods.
The flooding is the most widespread and severe in at least 100 years, covering an area larger than France and Germany combined! Thousands of people have had to flee their homes and huge amounts of wildlife have lost critical habitat.
The floods prompted officials to order the evacuation of two million people in Queensland's capital of Brisbane. And a flash flood caused a tsunami-like wave to crash into the city of Toowoomba, tossing cars and destroying homes. Sadly, many people have perished, and the death toll is likely to rise as the rescue and relief efforts continue.
Of course, much of the area's wildlife, livestock and many companion animals will also need immediate care and sheltering.
IFAW’s expert team has deployed to the devastated area and is determining the best way we can assist. I will have more details of IFAW's response in the coming days. In the meantime, know that we're committed to helping any and all companion animals and wildlife and are reaching out to local veterinarians and caregivers to offer our support.
If you'd like to help our Australia Flood Response, please donate now. Your gift will be used immediately and where it is needed most to help the animal victims of the Australia floods and in crisis around the world.
Then, please forward this message to all your friends and contacts. With your help, we will be able to bring lifesaving care and comfort to so many suffering animals.
Thank you,
Fred O'Regan
IFAW CEO
